While there are thousands of people in Barbados who have played Draughts here, is abundant evidence that the game as played scientifically is in it’s infancy. This would mean that in spite of the large numbers that have participated in it, the future holds in its unfolding an ever increasing desire to learn more of Draughts and to participate in one of the most enjoyable forms of entertainment that human minds have ever conceived.

In the future Draughts will take up rank alongside other games, not as children’s game but, as one to be played in a scientific manner by people of every age and walks of life. It holds an advantage that places it in a class by itself. It can be enjoyed in Winter and Summer alike, while other sports are seasonal.

In most physical sports, while the season is short, the duration of play is limited. When the age of thirty is reached, few would participate in a game of cricket, football or even tennis, yet in Draughts, one can play at any age.

After a hard day’s work, labourers, lawyers, teachers and merchants can enjoy the game, in fact, it boasts of many doctors amongst its leaders. Wives who desire closer companionship with their husbands can spend quality time across the board.

How many other games can be played by the rich, poor, old, young, weak, strong, male or female? What other game is there that has the possibilities of the development of vision and perception? A prominent business man said Draughts helped him with his business, saying that the game enabled him to apply the never say die attitude and a sense of accuracy that when applied to business helps tremendously as nothing is left to chance. In Draughts, every move must be planned and thought out, in other words it must be accurate to accomplish the purposes for which intended.

Today competition is keener than ever, therefore it is necessary for the individual to spend the time that he allots to recreation for the  improvement of his mental faculties, so he may win in other pursuits. Draughts is the leading game in this respect. Why waste time in a game of chance and cards, which besides being unduly expensive, renders no benefits whatsoever.
